What does Reiki mean?
‘Rei’ means ‘universal’ and ‘Ki’ means ‘life force energy’, making the definition of the word Reiki the ‘universal life force energy’. You may have already come across the word Ki before but not realized it, as it’s been identified by all cultures and has many different names such as:
Reiki is a simple non-religious therapeutic treatment, which will work whether you believe in it or not. It is universal and will not conflict with any religious beliefs you may hold.
What can Reiki help with?
Reiki encourages you in developing positive personal changes such as giving up smoking, reducing your alcohol intake and eating a healthier diet. It has also been used side by side with medical treatment to help patients with problems such as heart disease, strokes and cancer.
Reiki complements conventional medical treatment but does not take the place of medical care. Should you continue to follow medical advice from your doctor it would be in your best interest to inform your doctor that you are receiving Reiki.
What does the treatment involve?
During a Reiki treatment, I would ask you to lay fully clothed on a comfortable massage table, while I use the Reiki to clear energetic blockages and balance your ki, (energy). It is a good idea to wear comfortable clothes to enable you to feel more relaxed, but it’s not necessary.
The session involves me laying my hands in a series of non evasive positions around your head and body. If you are uncomfortable with the touch then I will hold my hands over the different areas instead, as this will make no difference to the effectiveness of the treatment.
What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki is absolutely wonderful, yet difficult to describe as it can be a unique experience for everybody. It is a very relaxing experience for both you and me. Some people feel a great sense of peace, calm and well-being, and at times can feel gentle sensations of ki (energy) flowing throughout their body. Some people have also felt soft warm heat emanating from my hands and a warm residue on their head or feet, from where my hands have been.
In my experience a lot of clients drift into a dream like state or even fall asleep. After the treatment is finished, most people will generally feel calm, grounded, relaxed, refreshed and often energized, with a more positive attitude about themselves and their life.
